Launceston - Our City

The City of Launceston is located on the Tamar River (in northern Tasmania ) where the North and South Esk Rivers converge.  It is Tasmania's second largest city with a population of approximately 96,000.

In 1804 Europeans settled near the mouth of the Tamar River on the north coast.  In 1806 the settlement was moved upriver and Launceston was founded.  The city has many fine historic buildings dating pre-1900, including the Masonic Centre at 39 Brisbane Street.
